In a developing story, it was revealed yesterday that Donald Trump Jr. was emailed in advance of the meeting with a Kremlin-connected lawyer. He was told there would be compromising information about the Clintons, and information that would aid his father's presidential campaign. Mr. Trump Jr.'s lawyer denied that the president's son had done anything wrong, saying that the whole issue is 'much ado about nothing.'
(Breaking News Update on this front: The email is now public--it promises to 'incriminate Hillary.' Trump Jr.'s response was: "If it's what you say I love it.")
The U.S. consumer watchdog passed a rule preventing large banks from forcing consumers into arbitration, which may cost large Wall Street firms a lot of money. It will also allow for class action lawsuits against Financial Firms (this is a type of lawsuit in which a group of people who feel they have been wronged in the same way seek litigation as a group). This new decision would aid consumers in combatting unfair business practices perpetrated by large companies, however the new rule is sure to receive quite a bit of backlash from Republicans in Congress and the Trump administration.
Sticking with American business policy, here is a New York Times piece on the efforts by President Trump to promote deregulation in the economy--something that harkens back to some of the economic policies of Ronald Reagan, and is fairly in line with President Trump's campaign promises. However, he is conducting many of these deregulation measures behind closed doors. The NYT here claims that it identified some members on the committee (the committee handling the deregulation policies) who may have potential business conflicts (conflicts of interest).
A United States Marine troop carrying plane crashed near Jackson yesterday, killing 16 troops. The cause of the crash is still as of yet unknown.
President Trump is outsourcing to military advisors for a potential plan to send thousands more troops to Afghanistan.
In sports, Rafael Nadal was upset at Wimbledon in a lengthy (4 hours and 48 minutes) 5-set match. Nadal was the 4 seed.
New York Yankees Aaron Judge won the Home Run Derby last night, hitting 47 total home runs which traveled a total distance of almost 4 miles in total. He had 4 home runs that were longer than 500 feet!
That's all for today!
Have a wonderful Tuesday, all!
