The Iraq government announced on Sunday that it has fully regained control of its second largest city, Mosul, from the Islamic State. The announcement follows a 9 month campaign that saw thousands killed and almost a million displaced from their homes.
A continuing investigation into potential Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election revealed a 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. (President Trump's son) and Kremlin lawyers. During the exchange, Mr. Trump Jr. was allegedly promised 'damaging information' about Democratic presidential nominee, Hilary Clinton.
At the G-20, President Trump announced that he pressed Vladimir Putin on whether or not Russia meddled in the 2016 presidential election. However, Trump has come under criticism from both parties (Democratic and Republican), with some calling his actions no more than appeasement.
The Trumps also came under fire at the G-20 when Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter, sat in her father's seat for a meeting. Ms. Trump does not hold an official position in the U.S. Government.
After a week long recess, the Senate is ready to begin work again. A Republican plan to repeal and replace Obamacare is sure to be a hot topic on the agenda.
AT&T is set to purchase Time Warner for a whopping $85.4 billion. However, some in the White House fear political interference. Business representatives are also eagerly watching to see if they can detect a regulatory precedent.
Leaders of Europe have decided that they will focus on combatting climate change without the United States, leaving it behind as the Paris Accords are 'irreversible.'
And finally, in New York, the coined 'Summer of Hell' starts today, with major renovations being made to New York's Pennsylvania Station. Millions of commuters will see their daily travel affected by this renovation. From firsthand experience, I can say that it is going to be miserable.
